BBVS JV, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, Vinci and Systra, was formed to build Old Oak Common Station in West London as part of the HS2 scheme. Old Oak Common is a critical component within the wider HS2 high-speed rail project, set to become the best-connected and largest new railway station in the UK.
Like all major national infrastructure projects, the building of Old Oak Common needs to accommodate a high volume of workers on site while maintaining strict security and competency standards. This is where our support is critical.
Our access control and workforce management solution include several key features to meet the needs of BBVS JV. 12 biometric turnstiles with facial recognition and anti-pass back technology have been strategically installed in five areas across the site, ensuring only those authorised to enter the site are able to, and re-entry is not possible without further authorisation. The setup enables construction support services provider Clipfine to use high-quality cameras to capture enrolment images, ensuring the highest level of security for facial recognition settings, and the system successfully passed a penetration test by the Met Police during construction.
Through Clipfine, the workforce management side of our solution is being used effectively. Our systems are pivotal in completing all on-site inductions and aiding the ongoing management of workers and any associated issues – incorporating a pool of 87 accreditations and 38 cards validated via CSCS Smart Check. To enhance reporting, our system is used to validate time spent on-site and integrate data into payroll, as well as including drug and alcohol information.
Striving for continuous improvement, we meet on a monthly basis with BBVS JV to identify where the solution is working well and where we can make further enhancements, while showcasing our development roadmap to provide insight into our upcoming offerings.
